Do you have a ‘North Star’ for your product?

In different project phases, we all have paused for a moment & thought — what are we doing? Are we doing it right? Is this solving our purpose? It is natural to lose track of bigger vision when we spend time figuring out the details. Though we sync with our colleagues every day, communication has another dimension of interpretation. It depends on how others perceive your tone & content based on their previous experiences.

However, some tools help us solve the problems we face. Design Brief helps us to keep track of our vision. I learned two artifacts that could be a potential asset in the design process.

While the design brief helps you in later phases, north star helps people to see an intriguing future idea — How does it feel when we achieve the end state of a vision?

North Star

It could be a storyboard or series of high-fidelity images or a movie that describes the experience someone has when you achieve the end state of a vision”.

Mark Simborg in his article explains that a North Star must do three things

  1. Lead to revenue
  2. Reflect customer value
  3. Measure progress
